At the time of filming Adrian Armstrong was Professor of Early French Culture in the School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures at The University of Manchester, Undergraduate Programme Director and Senior Academic Adviser in French Studies.

He is now Centenary Chair of French at Queen Mary, University of London.
